- Cornish Pasty: The word “pasty” comes from “pasta.” Originally made with a hard pastry that served as a container rather than something to be eaten, forming a sealed pastry envelope. Although it originally contained almost anything, the Cornish pasty now contains seasoned chopped root vegetables and minced beef. Also known as an oggie or Bedforshire clanger.
